Overview

  • Become a problem solver and explore the social and psychological factors behind why people commit crime. You’ll learn about society’s responses to crime and many of the factors that challenge whether these responses are effective. 
  • Delve into forensic and criminal psychology and gain knowledge about the complexities of victimisation. 
  • Develop a competitive edge for the employment market. Make the most of the flexibility of a ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø’s Arts degree and combine your criminology and criminal justice studies with courses in psychology, legal studies and social justice.
  • Discover the intricacies of the relationship between crime, justice and the media or young people and the juvenile justice system.

Career outcomes

  • Apply your knowledge to the criminal justice system, child protection, crime research, strategic planning and development, security, or the police force. You could also work in community corrections, border security, policy development, juvenile justice or research. 
  • Studying criminology in a B.A. or a Bachelor of Criminology provides strong understanding of the criminal justice system and criminology principles, and alongside a second major strengthens your employability, and, depending on the major, opens up many career opportunities.

Non-ATAR portfolio entry

Looking for an alternative entry into this degree? You may be eligible for non-ATAR portfolio entry if you:

  • are in Year 12 and want early assurance of entry, or
  • recently finished Year 12 but did not get the required ATAR for your preferred ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø degree, or
  • are at least 17 year of age and did not receive an ATAR, or
  • are not a recent school leaver but have some form of training or vocational education (e.g., TAFE Certificate), or
  • are over 25 years of age, did not complete secondary school, and haven't done any formal study or training.

Eligible applicants must attend an interview (in-person or online) and submit a portfolio of original creative work from the past three years, with a cover letter (all submitted online). Your portfolio can include school work, volunteer or work experience, or personal projects. 

In your submission, you can showcase fresh and new perspectives or different points of view, as well as your passion and commitment to your preferred subject area. All work submitted must be the applicant’s original work and must not have been wholly created or produced with the assistance of artificial intelligence. Tafe (VET) qualification

If you have completed a qualification from a TAFE or qualified private provider, you may be able to use these qualifications to meet ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø's entry requirements.

Work and life experience

You may be able to use your work experience and other adjustment factors to increase your selection rank and meet ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø's entry requirements.

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
